For Christmas, my brother N, his girlfriend B, my boyfriend and I went to Salt Spring Island to visit my mother. It is a three hour ferry ride away from the BC mainland. It’s a small island without any 7-11s, McDonalds or Starbucks’ (GASP!). Quaint and hidden away, Salt Spring Island has been the perfect getaway for a recluse.
This is a pretty picture of nasty ass, overpriced ferry food. Although, it does make due for tired winter mornings..
Picture of the Tsawwassen Harbour as we’re sailing away.
(N and B passed out.. already.)
Once we arrived at the cabin, N built a fire and we spent the evening playing board games and roasting marshmallows. I dont know if you’ve ever played Carcassone or Munchkin but, they’re pretty fun! The experience has made me reconsider the status of board games as dorky and boring. I bought N Quirkle for Christmas but forgot to bring it to the cabin.. fail.
As per usual, Mom made us go to a Baptist Christmas Eve Carol service. Not too bad.. they served amazing sugar cookies at least!
On Christmas Day, we were snowed in and without food! Driving into town was a dangerous journey. Trust me, driving with three backseat drivers (my mother, N and Boyfriend) is difficult enough but add some ice and sliding and you will have a single frustrated me with fumes emitting out of my ears. Luckily enough, there was a single sushi stand open and we were able to procure food for a Christmas feast. For dinner, the Boyfriend prepared korean BBQ short ribs as well as various roasted vegetables. C’etait délicieux!
(I just had to include a picture of a perfectly roasted marshmallow for drooling purposes.)
